About the laser that we do at our salon: The laser works by selectively heating the target (the hair) while preserving the surrounding tissue. Permanent hair reduction is achieved by using heat to disable the hair follicle and therefore over time preventing re-growth. Usually, a series of treatments are carried out for optimal long-term benefits, the number of treatments required depends on the skin type and hair growth. A patch test will be needed prior to the commencement of treatment. Prices start at R200 and vary depending on the area being treated. Our qualified therapists will explain the process in full detail with you during the consultation, which is free of charge. Laser Hair Removal has been around since the mid-1990s and has been proven to be an effective permanent reduction of hair growth on treated areas.

Laser Hair Removal
How does Laser Hair Removal work? Laser light works by Selective Photothermolysis, which means that it targets dark objects. Light is absorbed by dark objects so with laser energy the dark object that it targets when treating hair is the melanin in the hair.
Melanin is considered the primary chromophore (target) for all hair removal lasers currently on the market. Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair it's color).
There are two types of melanin in hair: eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color) and pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color).
Because of the selective absorption of laser light, only black or brown hair can be treated. If you have blond, grey or red hair laser will not be successful. Pale skin with black hair will see the best results; however, there are lasers that can treat dark hair on dark skin successfully. The darker and coarser the hair the quicker the result, bikini line, and underarm hair tend to respond to the quickest for this reason.
Treatments are suitable for both men and women. Areas that are commonly treated are upper lip, face, neck, chest, back, stomach, bikini, underarms, forearms, and legs.
How Long Does it Take? Treatment time varies depending on the area to be treated an upper lip can take 5- 10 minutes whereas a full leg can take an hour. The frequency of the visits depends on a number of different issues; your therapist will advise you as to how often you will need to attend. The frequency of visits can vary from 3-6weeks apart. The number of treatments will also depend on a number of different issues such as the size of the area, the colour of the hair, and the coarseness of the hair. With facial hair the cause of the excess growth is also a consideration. People on certain medications are susceptible to an increase in hair growth, which can have a bearing on the treatment.
How many treatments will I need? On average most people will need an initial course of 4-12 treatments followed up by occasional maintenance treatments.
Are there any risks with Laser Hair Removal? There are some risks involved with laser treatment namely hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation, this means you can lose pigment in the skin or gain pigment like a freckle mark. This is not a frequent occurrence but can happen on occasion. In rare instances, blistering may occur. More likely there can be slight swelling and redness after the treatment, which will calm down within a number of hours. It is also important not to expose yourself to the sun for two weeks before or two weeks after the treatment. It is recommended that sunscreen is used daily while having treatment.

Aesthetic Micro-Needling Pen
Skin Needling Dermapen
Many people, male and female of varying ages, have mounting concerns about their skin; most having spent time and money on department store creams/oils with no success.
Thankfully we have an economical “answer to our prayers” with the quick, easy, and effective procedure called skin needling.
What is skin needling?
Skin needling is one of the newest, easiest forms of Collagen Introduction therapy; also known as Dermapen, Medical Microneedling, or Micro-needling.
The compact device is comprised of small tiny microscopic stainless steel needles, used to pierce the upper layers of skin up to 2mm (depending on the needle used).
What are the benefits of skin needling?
The procedure is rather versatile and can be used to treat varying concerns in different areas of the body. These include:
Fine lines and wrinkles.
Acne scarring.
Scarring.
Stretch marks.
Skin texture and tone.
Enlarged pores
Hair loss or thinning.
What does skin needling do?
The skin’s natural production of collagen is not a constant or steady supply and as we age starts to slow and deplete. This can cause the skin to develop fine lines, wrinkles, more prominent scarring, and not react or heal to its full potential.
Skin needling offers nature a “helping hand” by enhancing collagen production and the penetration of skincare concentrates.
The device is applied on the surface of the skin and creates small perforations; as a result, the body’s automatic healing mechanism kicks in, believing there is a wound to heal. The healing response of the body stimulates the right environment for excess collagen and elastin to be produced.
By combining the procedure with the correct skincare concentrates it will allow the patient to see maximum results.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects to expect from skin needling would be minor redness, swelling, and bruising; which generally all subside after the first day.
Is the treatment painful?
We are able to apply a numbing cream to the localized area before the treatment begins, for patients that have a low pain threshold.

Lamelle Skin Peels
A Chemical Skin Peel: What is it, how does it work, and is it right for you?
The chemical peel is one of the most honest skincare treatments around. It doesn’t hide behind a fancy name. It is what it says: a chemical solution that harnesses your body’s natural processes of renewal, which can largely be summed up as “discard old skin cells to make space for new ones.” In other words, it causes the skin to peel so that the new skin can grow in its place. The idea of peeling away small amounts of skin might sound scary initially, but chemical peels are one of the most common treatments for correcting skin and achieving visible results – especially in winter when skin needs a bit of a lift – simply because they have proven so very effective in rectifying damage and renewing skin.
The purpose of Chemical Peels
Erase imperfections
Remove damaged skin
Improve skin tone and texture
Allow new skin to grow
What conditions are treated with chemical peels?
Chemical Peels are used to treat:
Acne
Aging
Hyper-pigmentation
But they are also great for:
Firming and tightening
Rejuvenation Resurfacing of the skin
Improving complexion
Stimulating healthy new tissue growth

DermaLogica Facials
At Beauty Matters, our professional skin therapists are trained at the International Dermal Institute. They are the most highly trained professionals in the industry. Think of a professional skin therapist as a specialist for your skin. We are dedicated to getting real results.
A lot of clients talk about facials and at Beauty Matters, we talk about skin treatments and the difference is clear. A facial is something that is indulgent or pampering. A skin treatment is specific to that client’s skin, designed specifically for them by an expert skin therapist and the results are unequaled.
We start with our unique Face Mapping where we analyze the skin in-depth and design a treatment that’s different every single time because your skin is different every time you come in. You should receive a skin treatment about every 4-6 weeks or as I often like to say, once every epidermis which is your outer layer of skin.
The results your going to see with our skin treatment are unlike anything else in the industry because we exfoliate the skin, we double cleanse the skin, we do extractions, tailor-made customized massage, and masque technique. With the products that are unequaled, you’re going to see your skin glowing, more luminous, hydrated, quite honestly it’s going to be in its optimum condition, the best skin you’ve ever had..
