The Hair Academy of South Africa (THASA) is situated in a safe environment in the student town, Potchefstroom, near shopping malls and recreational facilities. Accommodation is available on and around the premises. THASA has been a successful training facility since 2008, producing top-class candidates to put into the hairdressing industry. This academy provides international hairdressing qualifications, customised for the South African market. THASA candidates work nationwide as well as abroad.

Overview of the Hairdressing course at THASA Knowledge Modules - Introductory studies for Hairdressers, NQF Level 2, Credits 6 - Hair and skin, NQF Level 3, Credits 10 - Shampooing, conditioners and treatment, NQF Level 2, Credits 6 - Communication and sales, NQF Level 3, Credits 6 - Hairstyling, NQF Level 3, Credits 20 - Hair Cutting, NQF Level 4, Credits 30 - Chemical hair services, NQF Level 4, Credits 30
Practical Modules - Shampoo, condition and treat scalp and hair, NQF Level 2, Credits 6 - Style hair, NQF Level 3, Credits 25 - Cut hair, NQF Level 4, Credits 25 - Colour hair, NQF Level 4, Credits 25 - Provide chemical hair treatments, NQF Level 4, Credits 25 -Maintain professional customer services, NQF Level 3, Credits 2 You will complete these modules full time during the first year at THASA, and part-time during the first half of the second year. During the second year, you will start working in a salon to complete the Workplace.
Modules - Mode of Delivery Learners shall attend theory and practical sessions at THASA. An integrated summative assessment will take place after each level.
Assessment - Formative Assessment Continuous assessment takes place at regular intervals, which will prove the readiness of the student to enter the Hairdressing Trade Test.

Overall experience The students are taken step-by-step through all aspects of hairdressing, including salon management, while getting first-hand practical experience of styling, colouring, perming, cutting, bleaching, etc. The course gives the student the necessary skills, training experience, and confidence for a career in the hairdressing industry.
Academic support A student guide will provide the student with detailed information about the program as well as requirements and procedures during their studies.
During training, you will be encouraged to - participate in competitions, - see platform artists at work, - experience demonstrations on the latest products and techniques and - learn in a fun-filled and supportive environment.

How to get started with THASA
Applicants are required to submit the following when applying for the THASA hairdressing course: - Application form and Enrolment Contract - Curriculum Vitae - Certified copies of school certificate - Certified copies of Identity Document - Two passport-sized photographs - Applicants have to be 16 years or older
Learners who wish to enroll have to be in possession of a National Senior Certificate (GR 12) or equivalent qualification. GR 10 is not excluded, but entry will be subjected to an interview.
