Based in Alberton (southern Johannesburg) we cater to students of all ages and any flavour of musical style from blues to rock, contemporary or classical. We are flexible in offering lessons to students at our jam room in Alberton as well as the option of providing more personal tuition in the comfort of your own home. Night classes are also available to those who are stuck with the long working hours of the day shift making the joy and satisfaction of learning how to play your favourite songs freely available to everybody.
All aspects of learning are addressed from the basics to reading and theory or even for the more experienced player who wants to advance their skills. Discover the tricks to playing intros and endings, riffs, and chord modulations the way the pros do it.
BASS GUITAR LESSONS
Our lessons provide for your type of bass guitar be it 4 to 6 string and even fretless. Right and left-handed players (or players to be) will find the lessons they need to suit them here.
Beginners will learn the so-called "basics" of reading and writing, keeping time, fingerpicking or using the plectrum, and playing along with their favourite songs and bass licks. Later or advanced players can learn how to burn on their bass solos and the proper use of techniques to make their playing more colourful such as slides, harmonics, tapping, and slappin'. We can also help you to start exploring improvisation and playing along with other instruments effectively.

What will I learn? Beginning with the basics of reading and writing music and keeping time, tuning and maintenance of your guitar, ear training, chord progressions, scales, key signatures, fingerpicking & strumming, and your favourite songs to soloing, rhythm guitar, advanced techniques (vibrato, hammer-ons, and pull-offs, barring, harmonics, arpeggios) understanding and applying new chord progressions (power chords, diminished chords, 7th chords) sight-reading and transposing, scale sequencing, improvising, and mastering a new style.

Jiggs Downing is the founder of Professional Guitar and Bass Tuition. He first picked up a guitar at age 15 and through his musical journey, he joined the SADF and served in the entertainment core. After two years in the national service, he joined the local band Stingray with who he recorded and toured around the country. After the group disbanded he freelanced and recorded with many South African artists such as PJ Powers, Steve Hofmeyer, Laurika Rauch, and Coenie de Villers. Jiggs then went into a two-year contract with Sun International Royal Swazi Spa backing various overseas and local cabaret artists from Madeline Bell, Neville Nash, Judy Page, and Barry Hilton. He went to play in the local blues-rock trio Fat City and also played with Shirley Bassey on her South African tour. He eventually moved on to theatre playing broadway classics as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Joseph, and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Hairspray, Footloose, Rent, We Will Rock You, Cats, and Janice Honeyman's Pantomimes at the Civic Theatre to name but a few.
